Gérard Economos was born in Paris in 1935. He studied architecture for a few years and devoted himself to painting in 1958. His meeting with Jean Cocteau was decisive. He illustrated many works by writers such as Jean Cocteau, Jean Giono, Yves Navarre, Henry Queffelec, Lawrence Durrell, Roger Peyrefitte as well as Nobel prize-winners.
In 1978, together with Xenakis, he created the concept of Visible Music which involved painting on a 10m canvas, in public, accompanied by a symphony orchestra. It was a great success… He traveled around the world: Paris, at theThéâtre du Chatelet with the conductor Yukata Sado; Montreal with Charles Dutoit; Beijing, Shanghai, Macao, Worms Cathedral with Jean Guillou, Munich, Lisbon, Lima, etc.
